Adult Faith Formation

About 35 parishes in the Diocese of Superior offer small group adult formation. This type of formation allows for smaller groups of adults (usually two to twenty) individuals to get together to learn about the faith, in a formal or informal setting once a week, once a month, or every few months. This has been proven to be the receptive format for good adult formation.

In the Diocese of Superior there are almost 1,000 different small group opportunities available ministering to over 1,200 adults.

Common small group adult formation opportunities include:

About 25 parishes offer large group adult formation. This type of formation usually is a large gathering usually over 40 people.

In the diocese there are over 200 different large group opportunities available ministering to over 1,500 adults.

Many parishes have materials for personal prayer, study, and reflection which are available in print, on audio or videotape. Other resources are available on the internet.

Other opportunities for adults and their families to have meaningful faith formation experiences:

• family prayer and Scripture sharing,

• family-to-family ministry,

• the homily,
• the physical environment,
• hospitality,
• liturgical ministries,
• congregational participation,
• appropriate music,
• the Sunday bulletin with inserts--

has the potential to foster adult faith, bringing people into a more intimate relationship with Christ and one another. Daily Mass and other communal prayer experiences provide additional formative opportunities.
