In 2010, Most Rev. Peter F. Christensen met with a group of catechetical leaders from the Diocese of Superior. At this meeting, the catechetical leaders raised the problem of getting youth and their families more involved in their faith. Bishop suggested that our efforts focus on honoring God more fully in both word, letter and action. He discussed the countless letters he receives from Confirmands and how frequently they lower-cased God's Holy Name. Taking this to heart, several conversations ensued about giving God more respect. Out of this arose the "God Campaign."
Through our baptism we receive a mission. In simple terms, we are called to campaign for God.
Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation (Mk 16:15).
There is a problem though. With rising secularization, we often feel at odds living and talking about our faith with the rest of the world. So, how do we campaign for God in the midst of adversity?
The Catholic Church provides us with a universal road map. We are called to seek God, to know Him and to love Him (CCC 1). God asks each of us personally to seek Him and share Him with others. The key is that for us to share God with others, we must know Him.
For this reason, we have designed the God Campaign. It is a three year initiative to help persons encounter the Living God through both the subjective and objective. The new evangelization calls for new methods. This campaign is a new method. To be successful, you need to:
The God Campaign is not a program in itself. It requires authentic witness of Christ through a lived experience. Our God Campaign reflects what we believe in. Keep this in mind as you utilize these resources.
The first year starts with basic reverence of God the Father and His Holy Name.
The Campaign Button
A campaign button was designed for Phase I. A fruit of the campaign's first year is that our young people began capitalizing God's name in their letters to their bishop. It is our hope that a simple action will effect a great change. May our ever loving God continue to renew our hearts and bring us close to Him.
The second year emphasizes the Son of God - Jesus Christ. At the heart of our faith is this Person. The Year of Faith (2012-2013) provides us with an unique opportunity to share Christ in the Eucharist.
The third year focuses on the Holy Spirit. To live in authentic freedom, we must be attentive to the way the Holy Spirit is calling us to go.
