Parish Corporate Board

Each parish in the Diocese of Superior is incorporated under Wisconsin Statute sec 187.19. In other words, parishes are corporations, legally speaking, and, therefore, must have a board of directors.

A parish corporation is a civil body created for legal purposes. Each has authority and competence in civil and secular matters.

BOARD TRUSTEES

• Parish Appointee, Trustee-Treasurer
• Parish Appointee, Trustee-Secretary

Trustees are appointed by the pastor and serve as members of the Board of Directors for a term of two years, which is renewable, and until their successors are duly selected and qualified.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Trustee-Treasurer: to work with the vice president (pastor) to "provide for the orderly receiving, accounting and dispersing of all funds belonging to the parish corporation,” according to the bylaws. With the pastor signs parish checks as needed.
• Trustee-Secretary: to notify the directors of meetings and keep the minutes of the meetings. One of the major responsibilities of the trustee-secretary is to ensure that parish records are kept on parish grounds in an easily accessible and orderly fashion. The trustee-secretary
  is responsible for maintaining records of all real property, property tax exemption, the parish inventory and the parish census. With the pastor signs parish checks as needed.

Trustees also assist with ensuring that their parishes are in compliance with the U.S. bishops’ 2002 Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.
