Bishop Peter F. Christensen established a Vitality of Parishes Committee in 2009 as part of the Diocesan Pastoral Council. The purpose of this committee was to review characteristics for parish viability. A vital parish is defined as one having the liturgical, programmatic, educational, financial and outreach wherewithal to carry out its proper mission as defined in paragraph 2179 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
In 2012 all parishes in the Diocese of Superior participated in a Parish Self-Assessment study which helped each parish identify areas of strength and areas that need further attention while the parish continues to live out its mission, vision and values that point to the mandates of the Gospel. This parish self-assessment is/was NOT intended for diocesan use in determining the closing of any parishes, but rather to help parishes take a healthy honest look at their current parish life and to revitalize their parish communities as we look toward the future.
See Parish Self Assessment Section for more information.
